Daily Maintenance Key Points for Pultrusion Molds to Effectively Extend Service Life

Most fiberglass pultrusion production lines operate continuously non-stop. As the core carrier for profile forming, molds are exposed to resin erosion, friction from glass fibers, and repeated thermal cycling over long-term operation. This readily leads to common issues including resin buildup inside the mold cavity, inner wall abrasion and surface oxidation corrosion. Once mold accuracy deteriorates or surface damage occurs, it will directly result in burrs, color difference, distortion and deformation on finished profiles. Frequent mold repairs interrupt production schedules and raise manufacturers’ overall production costs.

Routine maintenance is critical to preserve dimensional accuracy and extend the service life of molds. Daily maintenance falls into two categories: maintenance during production breaks and periodic in-depth maintenance. During shutdowns between production runs, promptly remove residual resin buildup on the mold cavity surface to prevent cured resin from adhering and scratching the cavity permanently. Hard tools are strictly prohibited from directly scraping the mold inner wall, as this will cause irreversible scratches.

For periodic in-depth maintenance, conduct fine polishing and restoration on mold cavities, inspect heating channels and sealing areas of molds, and implement anti-rust and anti-oxidation protection simultaneously.

Maintenance cycles for pultrusion molds shall be adjusted flexibly according to different resin systems and actual production conditions. A well-matched demolding process together with a tailored mold maintenance plan can reduce risks of mold sticking and cavity blockage, consistently guarantee surface quality of profiles, and help composite material manufacturers boost mass production efficiency.
